It’s back to school week at the Chula Vista Elementary School District. The Altrusa Club
of Chula Vista, Inc. Foundation, presented Palomar Elementary School with new
books for their school library to promote diversity, equity as well as promote social
emotional wellbeing for students. The books, selected by Palomar Elementary School
staff, fosters not only a love of reading but also promotes collaborative conversations
between students, teachers and parents. These conversations support the educational and emotional needs of the whole child to foster student success.

This grant is part of a larger initiative, “Active Learning in the South Bay.” Palomar
Elementary School was previously selected as a grant recipient to fund
educational support items/manipulatives for their Pre-K special education classroom in
Spring 2023. Palomar Elementary School also provided an additional “wish list” to
purchase new books for their school library to benefit all students. With the support of
the Altrusa Club membership and community partner donors, the Altrusa Club of Chula
Vista, Inc. Foundation, raised additional funds to complete Palomar’s library grant
request. The foundation is the 501 (c)(3) fundraising arm for the Altrusa Club of Chula
Vista.

As a literacy partner with the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD), the
Club/Foundation previously awarded grants to support the CVESD District Innovation
and Sound Stations. These local elementary schools include Harborside, Feaster Charter
School, Central, Hazel Cook and Los Altos.

The Altrusa Club of Chula Vista celebrates 65 years of service in our community. In
addition to literacy programs, the Club provides financial support for scholarships,
grantmaking to international projects and other service projects that “build bridges that
elevate, connect, and empower communities.” For more information on how you can be
