CHULA VISTA POLICE ACTIVITIES LEAGUE (CV PAL) TO HOLD VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS IN LIEU OF CANCELLED FESTIVAL
Each year, the community of Chula Vista looks forward to the Day of the Child celebration sponsored by the Chula Vista Community Collaborative. This year’s festival, originally planned for April 18, had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Annually the festival draws close to 5,000 people including adults and children and has over 100 displays and activities for kids and families.
Rather than waiting for the live festival, CV PAL asked the Community Collaborative for their help in doing a smaller virtual Day of the Child celebration. The virtual celebration will be online starting April 30 and will be available the entire month of May.
CV PAL president Vanessa McEvoy stated that there are lots of online resources for parents right now, but these videos will all be produced by local organizations. “We felt it was important to have locals put on the workshops as that’s who participates in the live celebration”. Videos may not be professional quality, but that’s part of the charm and what makes it feel more like community.
Some of the workshops CV PAL will have include dual-language story time where Mayor Mary Casillas Salas will read a children’s book in Spanish; while Police Chief Roxana Kennedy will read a story in English. There also will be science demonstrations by Chula Vista Police Officers and Fire Fighters as well as fitness segments for all ages by the San Diego Seals Lacrosse team, and other fitness professionals. In addition, kids can learn how to do fingerprint art with a Chula Vista Police forensics specialist, and kids yoga from Arts 4 Learning San Diego.
All workshops will be available through http://www.cvpal.org/vdoc beginning April 30.
