All around the Chula Vista Elementary School District, students and their families picked up grab-and-go bags at breakfast and lunch on the first day of school closures Monday, March 16. While some local families walked up to the meal service stations at schools, others chose to slowly drive up and pick up bags from staff members. In all, we served 400 breakfasts and 1,600 lunches today across our schools districtwide. At Cook Elementary, one parent called out to the principal and staff, “We miss you!” as she drove off after her son received his bag of food for lunch. At Harborside Elementary, those in automobiles waved or honked in support of Child Nutrition Services staff who were handing out the to-go bags.
Beginning Tuesday, the District will make an adjustment to its “grab-and-go” meal service schedule to better accommodate local families. When students pick up lunch on March 17, they will receive another bag for the next day’s breakfast, as well. This means families will only need to make one trip to school to pick up lunch and breakfast for children ages 1 to 18. Parents are reminded that they can visit the nearest school to pick up meal bags and don’t have to go to the school site their child attends.
Here is CVESD’s meal service schedule for the rest of the week:
March 17: Breakfast 8 – 8:30 a.m. and Lunch 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (will hand out lunch and breakfast for next day)
March 18-March 20: Lunch and Breakfast (for next day) will be handed out from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
We thank our CVESD community for your ongoing patience and understanding.
