Beginning January 1, 2022, all residents and businesses in the State of California will be required to recycle organic waste which includes food waste, green waste, landscape and pruning waste, non-hazardous wood waste, and food-soiled paper.
Republic Services and the City of Chula Vista are in the process of implementing the new program starting early next year. For residential customers, food and yard waste will be collected together in the green cart. For commercial customers, the materials will be source-separated – one cart for food waste and one cart for yard waste.
All organic materials for the city will be collected and processed into compost at the Otay Composting Facility in the Otay Landfill. By reducing the amount of waste sent to the landfill, the program will result in cleaner air, healthier soils and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.Every property’s participation will be an essential component to meet California’s new requirements. Expect to learn more about the new program in the coming months. Customers can also find out more information about the new program and other news at: RepublicServices.com/ChulaVistaCA
